horton halfpott by tom angleberger

Alright, I have to admit it. I am a Tom Angleberger groupie. His books are just so fun and clever, I can’t resist. If you like Star Wars at all and were ever in junior high, then you will love the Origami Yoda books (the third in the series is reviewed here).

Back to the subject at hand, this book: Horton Halfpott or The Fiendish Mystery of Smugwick Manor or The Loosening of M’Lady Luggertuck’s Corset – with a title like that, what’s not to like?

Horton Halfpott is basically a male Cinderella figure. He works in the kitchen cleaning silverware and has integrity far above his station. When things start to go awry at Luggertuck Manor, Horton finds himself in the thick of things. Will he marry the rich heiress or stay in the kitchen–or worse, prison–forever? It’s a mystery of silly proportions.

Rating: G

This is a fun read for guys and gals, aimed towards middle-grade readers, and their parents. This book is fun and funny. The characters are comedic, as is the story telling. There are even shipless pirates, so what are you waiting for? Oh- and the cover glows in the dark.

Dear Reader – what is the funniest book you have ever read?

  1. Absolutely everything about this book sounds fantastic – the title, the cover, the story. And it’s about a Cinderfella! (one of my favorite movies) It’s such a great feeling to find an author that turns you into a groupie. 🙂
